Sorry for the delay, I've been meaning to post the information posters explaining the project on the day of the festival. You can download the whole set as a PDF (552kb).
Or view them here.
If you would like to find out more about "after the project" look in blog for reflective writing about SLF07 fugitivedesign.net/blog (this will redirect).

It's over!

Well it's almost here! Bought the materials for the Mandala on saturday, and doing calculations (after the insistence of Geoff) we figured that 8kg of materials will cover the proposed Mandala area. We are more than well stocked! Check the materials page for a complete list.
Though we do have quite a lot of gear, it will be possible to move everything by bike.
Yay for human power!
The only other thing to do are signs to help explain the project and concepts behind it, and calcualtions of embodied water and maybe energy used (thanks Geoff!)
The Dreamspheres team will be installing thursday 15 Feb, 12 noon. I will be there to help as much as i can. Please come and pitch in if you are free!

Great news! The Mandala is still part of the domes project with MEAF! Very happy about this! It will be in the dome with a sand floor. Wasn't sure whether to go for sand or grass, but thought sand might make the surface more stable for creating the mandala, grass would be nice might be too wobbly and soft. The mandala will still go on to a fabric base anyway.
The Interdependence Mandala is still on Saturday 17th February 2007.
:)
I will also be visiting Food Not Bombs at Irene's this coming Tuesday, see if they have any left overs, and also if they might be able to use the "soup mix" from the finished Mandala.

SLF is rapidly approaching!
There have been a few changes which i need to confirm. There won't be as many Domes at the festival, so the mandala needs to find a new home. This also makes the day of construction uncertain - but it is most likely to be Sunday 18 February.
Another decision has been made, the Mandala will be constructed only with edibles. This means, rice, lentils, split peas, beans etc... The range of colours available is lovely. And perhaps a spray bottle of "beetroot ink" could be created for some variety. It will still be compostable, but it will also be edible! So hopefully part of it could be donated for food. This makes the project slightly less wasteful of food and gives it a second life.
Calculations for the emissions/embodied energy/water used etc... for the materials used need to be done also, but these websites will be useful for that (and hopefully a friend will help calculate!):

And lastly here is a quick test of the mandala! It's gonig ot be a lot of fun to make!

the next pic was the old logo (don't want it up front now!)

An early sketch of the mandala is now up!

Met the Geodesic Dome crew today and saw their work - very exciting! The Mandala now has a home! The floor space is 4.25m diameter, roof height is 2.5m. This is great! Will easily be able to suspend a camera to take progressive photos. There is also 2 possibilities - for the mandala to be in the centre with space to walk around it, or for the visitor to enter and go into the centre of the mandala. In both cases the mandala could wander outside through one of the windows.
Had a look at rice and lentils in arora spices. Costs a bit - but won't be too prohibitive. Red and yellow lentils, there are also mung beans (green) and rice. Have to think about the ground. Perhaps should get some metres of calico - but it could be nice to have a dark background.

Talked with Jess - a group of artists are building geodesic domes for SLF07. Might be able to have my projects inside them...
